PERFIL EPIDEMIOLÓGICO DE CÂNCER EM CONCEIÇÃO DO COITÉ–BA/BRASIL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2030, cancer is projected to affect 27 million people worldwide. In Brazil, the National Cancer Institute (INCA) estimates over 700,000 new cases annually for 2024 and 2025. In Bahia, the projected annual figure is 38,840 cases, totaling more than 116,000 occurrences. Cancer remains a significant public health challenge. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of cancer cases in residents of Conceição do Coité, Bahia, Brazil. Method: A descriptive, retrospective study with both qualitative and quantitative approaches was conducted. Data were collected from the DATASUS platform, covering the period from 2013 to 2024. Results: The findings revealed that the most prevalent cancer types in Conceição do Coité align with national trends. However, specific types, such as skin, cervical, and thyroid cancers, demonstrated frequencies that warrant further investigation. Conclusion: While the most common cancers were consistent with expectations, the high incidence of skin cancer may reflect the municipality’s primary economic activity—sisal cultivation—and requires additional study.
